WALKING TOGETHER

Jersey Water joins forces with The National Trust for Jersey on all things ‘Walking’ in 2021. By DONNA LE MARREC of the National Trust for Jersey

The National Trust for Jersey has joined forces with Jersey Water in 2021 and is staging two walking festivals: its annual ‘Walking through Autumn’ event from Wednesday 1 to Sunday 5 September, which saw over 500 take part, in 2020 and a new walking festival celebrating the wonders of springtime which will take place from Wednesday 14 to Sunday 18 April.

The Trust is also creating a year-long programme of guided walks starting with a Valentine’s Day walk looking at the myth, magic and folklore of flowers and those associated with love and romance with local Botanist, Tina Hull.

Sponsored by Jersey Water, the festivals and the year-long walking programme offer perfect opportunities to enjoy the very best of the Island on foot.

Helier Smith, Chief Executive at Jersey Water said: ‘We are delighted to be able to support the Natural Trust’s Walking Programme as our two organisations’ values are very much aligned.  We share a purpose to look after the Island and protect the landscapes we all love.  Water is at the heart of island life; our reservoirs are not only critical for supplying water but have been much needed beautiful open spaces for people to enjoy throughout the pandemic. We have introduced a one-way system around each reservoir to ensure visitors can enjoy them safely.’

The pandemic in 2020 and the associated lockdowns underlined the value of the

natural environment and people seized the opportunity to get out and about and explore our wonderful Island. The Trust is fortunate to care for many beautiful natural spaces and what sets our walking apart, is the opportunity to access places not normally available to the public.

We’re very grateful for Jersey Water’s support, as without it this activity wouldn’t be possible.
