Both dog show competitors – canine and humans – thronged the showground at the Royal Jersey Society on Sunday 9 June for the ‘Fun Dog Show’ at the society’s Summer Fair.

So popular was it that the stating time had to be postponed by a quarter of an hour to accommodate all those owners who wanted to register their dogs, and spectators crowded the area outside the showring.

The judge was Alasdair Crosby, editor of RURAL magazine. RURAL sponsored the ‘doggy bags’ given to class winners and runner-ups.

Classes included The Cutest Puppy; Most Handsome Dog; Prettiest Bitch; Golden Oldie; Best Six legs; Dog the Judge would most like to take Home.

The show champion was Ripley, an 11 month old Newfoundland owned by Pieter Kotze. he also won the Cutest Puppy class – despite towering over all the other dogs in the show.

Afterwards, Alasdair said that the class: ‘Dog the Judge would most like to take home’ was the most difficult to judge – I would have wanted them all!
