Another field saved by the Trust

A fundraising campaign launched by the National Trust for Jersey has once again demonstrated the depth of support for protecting the environment.

The Trust put out an appeal asking Islanders to help it come up with the £50,000 needed to secure the rights to buy a field on Samarès Lane, adjacent to Maupertuis Farm. It took just 37 days to raise the money, which will ensure the field is saved from development.

The Trust said: “This project echoes the purchase of Field C80 on Samarès Lane in 2021, when Islanders came together to help secure the area from future development. The public giving campaign is an incredible show of support for protecting Jersey’s precious green spaces.

“As green spaces become ever more precious, protecting them has never been more important. At the National Trust for Jersey, we hope to continue our ambition to protect, manage and preserve Jersey’s natural beauty, rich wildlife and historic places – for today and for future generations.”

Known in planning and conservation as a ‘green lung’, areas of green space provide tremendous benefits for both people and nature. The field in St Clement will help support local wildlife and bird populations, provide recreational and wellbeing benefits for the community, and help improve air quality by absorbing harmful pollutants.
