The annual tradition of Black Butter making at The Elms is taking place from 3 – 5 October 2024.
The National Trust for Jersey writes: ‘Last year saw the production of 450 jars created entirely by our wonderful Black Butter ‘army’ of volunteers who peeled, stirred and jarred up.
‘If you have not been involved in this local tradition and feel like getting involved this year, why not come along to The Elms? There are numerous jobs and it is a lovely way of getting together, having a chat with old and new friends and all of your efforts will raise money for the Trust.
‘Volunteers can peel apples, watch the mixture being stirred all through the night, get involved in jarring up and then enjoy homemade food and live music on market day when the Black Butter goes on sale.
‘Adding to the usual hive of activity in and around Lé Nièr Beurre, there will be an apples preserves competition to see who can make the best apple jams, jellies, and other apple based products. The competition will be open to all ages and will feature a Children’s competition…
‘The categories include Apple Jam, Apple Jelly, Apple Pie, Apple Cake, Chutney, Best in Show and best Children’s apple ‘shaped’ biscuits.’
