DOMAINE DES VAUX OPERA FESTIVAL -JULY

Diva Opera are returning to Jersey in July for the 27th season of opera at Domaine Les Vaux, St Lawrence. It is also their 29th season as Britain’s leading chamber opera company.

They will perform brand new productions of Don Pasquale by Donizetti, and The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart, and will give their usual sparkling Opera Gala on the last night.

Diva’s mix of superb singing and acting, beautiful costumes and sets and outstanding performances by Bryan Evans on the piano bring the operas to life in a highly enjoyable and memorable way. Performances in the round give everyone the thrill of opera up close.  Audiences old and new cannot fail to be enchanted and moved by this approach to opera.

At the time of writing, there are tickets still available for Don Pasquale, which is on the festival’s opening night, Monday 7 July, and also for the Opera Gala on Wednesday, 9 July. The Marriage of Figaro on 8 July is already sold out, with a waiting list.

The Opera Festival continues to support the essential work of Jersey Zoo, both here and abroad. Funds raised this year will go towards improvements to the grounds and enclosures for the inhabitants of the zoo. JAYF – the Jersey Association for Youth and Friendship is the Festival’s second charity this year.

Binney and Boarder will serve dinner in the pyramid marquees after the Opera Gala on Wednesday.

DON PASQUALE: the story line —

Attention all men: Marriage can seriously damage your health! Well, it certainly seems so to elderly bachelor Don Pasquale as he becomes the victim of a clever plot to disillusion him of the notion of conjugal bliss, leaving the way open for his long-suffering nephew to marry the girl of his dreams. Donizetti’s masterpiece is one of the most popular comedies in the entire operatic repertoire. Matthew Hargreaves stars as Don Pasquale with Daniella Sicari as Norina, Philip Smith as Dr Malatesta and Michael Bell as Ernesto.

THE OPERA GALA

Diva Opera’s magical Gala Evenings are renowned for their show stopping arias and ensembles. This will be no exception and will celebrate the centenary of Gerald Durrell’s birth. Diva’s most popular soloists are joined by the inimitable Richard Suart to bring you an unforgettable evening of opera and song. Not to be missed!

DIVA OPERA

Now in its 29th year, Diva Opera was founded by Anne Marabini Young and Bryan Evans to take chamber opera out of the confines of the theatre and bring it to unique settings. Since its inception, the company has earned an unrivalled reputation within

the operatic world and beyond. Giving around 40 performances annually, they are now ambassadors for chamber opera internationally, and with outstanding performances from both well-known singers and a host of gifted young performers, are a showcase for some of the best in contemporary

talent.

This year the company will tour extensively with new productions of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and continue with their

popular and varied concert performances.
