Spirit of Heritage Photography & Video Competition 2013

JERSEY HERITAGE has announced the winners of the Spirit of Heritage Photography and Video Competition 2013, in association with the Jersey Evening Post. With categories including Classic and Artistic Photography, Instagram and videography, this Island-wide competition was launched in August 2013 and attracted over 450 entries.

The criteria of this year’s competition was to capture the spirit of heritage through the beholder’s camera lens, showing a glimpse of the many magical moments enjoyed at the Island’s heritage sites. The judges were looking for something recognisable and memorable which reflects the life and soul of the iconic sites which have shaped the Island’s history; whether it was a photo from exploring the castle walls, a morning coffee after a stay at a Heritage Holiday Let, a picnic shared at La Hougue Bie or children singing at the Hamptonne Cider Festival. It is hoped that the competition will develop in 2014 to become an annual event.

Having reviewed all entries, the winners were chosen by a panel of judges made up of Tricia Kennedy ARPS, John Nasey FRPS, Deputy Rod Bryans, Peter Mourant JEP, Andy Evans Fortress Island Films and Jeremy Swetenham of Jersey Heritage.

Jeremy Swetenham, Commercial Operations Director at Jersey Heritage said: ‘We are very pleased with the outcome of the competition and are overwhelmed by the response in this first year, particularly via the use of social media and Instagram. The ultimate aim was to share how islanders engage with Jersey’s heritage and we really got a sense of what this means to our community.
