This Saturday is being celebrated around the world as International Bat Night. The Jersey Bat Group will be celebrating International Bat Night 2025 this year alongside EUROBATS and collaborative Bat Group partners around the world!
For the event, the Jersey Bat Group will be offering a Walk and Talk at Queen’s Valley Reservoir this Saturday, on 30 August.
The Group says: ‘Join us for a magical evening celebrating International Bat Night 2025 at one of Jersey’s most scenic spots! As the sun sets over Queen’s Valley Reservoir, discover the fascinating world of bats – the mysterious mammals of the night. Meet at the top car park (north) off the B28.
‘Our event begins with a short bat talk, where you’ll learn fun facts about Jersey’s bats, their secret lives, and why they’re so important to our ecosystems. Then, we’ll set off on a gentle guided walk around the reservoir, using bat detectors to listen in on their ultrasonic calls and (with a bit of luck!) watch them swooping across the water in search of insects.
‘Expect a night full of wildlife wonders, from the chatter of pipistrelles to the chance of seeing some of our more rarer bats skimming the water’s surface.’
Practical Information & Safety:
– Please wear appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear – paths may be uneven and muddy in places.
– Bring a torch or headtorch to help light your way.

Tickets £10 for adults. Children 12 & under are free.

This event is part of the international celebration of bats, bringing people together across Europe and beyond to appreciate these incredible creatures.
‘Come along, tune into the night sky, and see bats in a whole new light! We’re looking forward to meeting and engaging with more bat enthusiasts!’
