CONCERTS IN THE NEW YEAR FROM THE JERSEY CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

On 31 January 2026  one of the UK’s most celebrated sopranos, Sophie Bevan MBE, will join the Jersey Chamber Orchestra for a very special Jersey Chamber Orchestra concert at St Helier Methodist Church for Classics by Candlelight — an intimate evening of music for voice and strings, presented in the warm glow of candlelight.

Sophie Bevan will perform songs by Schubert and Richard Strauss, joined by nine professional JCO players in a programme that also includes music by Mozart and Grieg. This concert has been shaped to highlight the beauty of the human voice in dialogue with strings, and the emotional storytelling that chamber music does so powerfully.

Sophie Bevan, renowned for her warmth, clarity, and communicative artistry, brings international experience from the Royal Opera House, Salzburg Festival, and the Metropolitan Opera to a setting designed for closeness and connection.

This weekend is about more than a single concert. On Friday 30 January, JCO musicians will be working across the Island, delivering nine outreach sessions in schools, including string workshops and vocal sessions led by Eamonn Dougan, Associate Conductor of The Sixteen. These encounters give young people the rare chance to stand alongside professional musicians and experience high-level music-making at close quarters.

All proceeds from the Saturday concert directly support Music in Action’s education and community programmes, helping us bring music into schools, care homes, and community settings throughout Jersey.
