An artistic and craft group has been established at The Harbour Gallery Jersey, 19 The Quay, Commercial Buildings, St Helier. Their work will be displayed in long strings around The Jersey Book Worm side of the gallery from 17 June.

Gallery director Pat Robson said: ‘The display of their work is one of the latest projects from the group. The group have forged a wonderful sense of community, and I cannot wait to see their works on show.’
The works are all based on the spring season and on new life, new growth, plant life, flowers, birds etc.

The Art in the Frame Foundation, the managing charity of The Harbour Gallery Jersey has now been running the ‘You Are Never Too Old’ group for nearly three years. The group of up to 40 people meet every Tuesday afternoon at The Harbour Gallery Jersey from 1.30 – 3.30pm all year around — everyone is welcome, you just need to be over 60. The sessions are free but a donation towards tea and cake is welcomed.

One group concentrates on knitting and crochet making a wonderful assortment of knitted and crocheted toys and garments in a colourful assortment of yarns…and plenty of yarns are told during their lively sessions!
The second group alternate between textile and 3D work with Karen Behan and painting with studio artist Maureen Osborne. Starting in late March, the group began working on textiles with Karen using Slow Stitching, hand stitching, making beautiful 30cm squares reusing fabric scraps, threads and beads…all donated to the gallery. To liven up the last of winter the theme for the squares was ‘Primavera, The Birth of Spring.’ Each person has made one, two or three squares in beautiful bright and cheerful colours and all ‘bagged’ finished off to hang in a continuous line `around the gallery.
Pat said: ‘Each one is a mini work of textile art. The gallery is buzzing when the groups are in, many friendships have been made, lots of skills have been and still are being learned and there is a wonderful welcoming community spirit.’

If you are interested in joining or finding out more, please email; partintheframe@yahoo.co.uk or call the gallery on 01534 743044 and ask to speak to Pat.
The group has been supported by the Sir James Knott Trust and the Jersey Community Foundation.
